Kentmere Fine Print VC Brillant 24.0x30.5cm 10 Sheets

Kentmere Fine Print VC Brillant 24.0x30.5cm 10 Sheets | Make generous darkroom prints

For turning a darkroom image into a substantial print, the Kentmere Fine Print VC Brillant gives you a 24.0 x 30.5 cm sheet to work with. The pack contains 10 sheets, a practical quantity for making a small set of finished prints or spending time refining one image. “VC” refers to variable contrast, so this paper is aimed at printmakers who want to work with contrast as part of making the image. The larger sheet size gives a photograph room to breathe on the page; it also asks you to make a deliberate choice about the image and composition before printing. That’s part of the appeal of working at this scale. This is a straightforward option to consider when you’re choosing paper for darkroom printing and want a named size and sheet count to plan around.

Planning a print

A 24.0 x 30.5 cm sheet gives you a clear physical canvas to plan around. Think about the crop you want and how much of the paper you want the image to occupy; those decisions affect the balance of the finished print. If you’re comparing different versions of an image, keep notes on your choices so you can decide which print best matches what you had in mind. The VC designation makes contrast part of that printing process, rather than just a detail to consider after the image is on paper.

With 10 sheets in the pack, it helps to decide what you want to learn from each print before you begin. You might use the sheets to work through a single image, or make prints of several photographs at the same size. Either way, the pack gives you a defined amount of paper to plan with. One honest point: a large print takes more room to display than a small one, so it’s worth picturing where the finished photograph will live.
