Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Hasselblad XCD

Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Hasselblad XCD | Make room for wide, detailed compositions

Wide scenes are often handled by stepping back, but in a tight architectural space that may not be possible. The Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D is an ultra-wide prime lens for Hasselblad X medium-format cameras, giving you a broad view for landscapes, architecture and night-sky photography. Its 111° angle of view helps bring a large setting into the frame, while the 19mm focal length gives you room to include foreground detail and strong lines. It suits photographers who prefer choosing their framing with a fixed focal length rather than zooming, and who are happy to focus manually. The lens is particularly at home when the scene itself is the subject: a sweeping landscape, a building seen from close quarters, or a wide portion of the sky. For everyday, tighter framing, you’ll likely want a different focal length alongside it.

Wide framing, considered

With such a broad view, small changes in camera position can have a noticeable effect on the composition. For architecture, take time to line up verticals and edges; for landscapes, a clear foreground can help give the scene depth. The fixed focal length encourages you to work the scene by moving and reframing, rather than reaching for a zoom. That approach rewards patience, especially when the frame includes both nearby details and distant subjects.
