Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic 20mm T2 - Silver (Meters) (VE2020PLEFSM)
Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic 20mm T2 - Silver (Meters) (VE2020PLEFSM) | Wide cinematic framing with anamorphic character
Your shots gain a wider horizontal composition and a distinctly cinematic feel with the Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic 20mm T2. It’s a specialist lens for filmmakers building a widescreen look into the image, rather than relying only on a crop in post. The 2X anamorphic design is the defining feature: plan to view or process the footage with the appropriate desqueeze so the image displays in the intended proportions. Its 20mm focal length gives you room to frame expansive scenes, while the T2 marking is useful when setting exposure on a production. This lens will suit cinematographers and small crews who want anamorphic framing for narrative scenes, music videos or atmospheric establishing shots. The silver finish gives the lens a distinctive appearance on set. It’s a focused creative tool, best suited to projects where you can account for anamorphic monitoring and post-production in your workflow.
Working with the anamorphic image
Think of the 2X design as part of your framing and post-production plan, not just a lens label. Anamorphic footage needs desqueezing to appear in its intended proportions, so make sure that step is covered in your monitoring or editing workflow. The 20mm focal length can help fit more of a scene into the frame, which is handy for establishing shots or confined locations; the final view also depends on the camera format.
Specialist Note
The Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic 20mm T2 is best when you want a broad, widescreen view with anamorphic character. I’d consider it for an establishing shot or a dramatic interior: the 20mm focal length gives you room to include the setting, while careful positioning helps keep the composition intentional. T2 is a practical exposure point to work from when light is limited, though the look you get depends on the scene and camera format. One thing to plan for is the 2X desqueeze; your monitoring or post workflow needs to handle it. It suits filmmakers who want that specific framing and are prepared to build the workflow around it.
