Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 58 mm
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 58 mm | More control over motion in bright light
Your moving-water shots can show a gentle trail instead of freezing every ripple: the Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 58 mm cuts the light entering the lens, giving you room to choose a slower shutter speed in bright conditions. It can also help you keep a wider aperture outdoors when you want a softer background, rather than stopping down simply because the scene is bright. The filter suits photographers who enjoy shaping how movement appears, and anyone working in daylight who wants more control over exposure. It doesn’t create blur by itself; the shutter speed you select does that, while aperture and ISO still affect the exposure. A slower setting records movement across the exposure; opening the aperture changes depth of field, so these uses give different results. Treat it as a simple, fixed reduction in light that gives you more room to make those choices. For a deliberate result, start with the shutter speed you want, then adjust the rest of the exposure to suit the scene. This is a focused tool for those decisions, rather than an all-purpose solution for every lighting situation.
Specialist Note
16 means four stops less light reaches the sensor, so at the same aperture and ISO a 1/125 sec exposure becomes roughly 1/8 sec. For a small cascade, that’s a practical starting point for softening the water; keep the camera steady and adjust from there to suit how much movement you want. The 58 mm size suits a lens whose front filter marking is 58 mm, so it’s worth matching that number before you buy. I’d recommend it to someone who wants a straightforward way to slow exposure or hold a wider aperture in daylight. One limitation: ND16 has a fixed strength, so you can’t dial the reduction up or down; it works best when four stops is the amount you need.
