Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND32 55 mm
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND32 55 mm | Make room for slower shutter speeds
The defining choice is neutral-density filtration: this Marumi grey filter reduces the light reaching your camera, giving you more freedom to use a slower shutter speed. That’s useful when you want movement to register in a photograph, rather than freezing every detail. Think flowing water, or motion in a scene where a faster exposure would leave little room to slow the shutter. It suits photographers who want to explore that effect with a lens that takes a 55 mm filter. The ND32 rating makes this a substantial light-reducing filter, so it’s especially relevant when you need a longer exposure in conditions where the scene would otherwise be too bright for that setting. It’s a focused tool: the appeal is control over exposure and motion, not a change to your lens’s focal length or framing.
Specialist Note
Compose the frame first, then use the ND32 to bring the exposure down and let motion show. A 32× reduction is five stops; as a guide, a 1/30 sec exposure becomes about one second, which can give moving water a softer look. I find that example a helpful starting point, then you can adjust for the light and the movement you want to keep. The 55 mm size matters at the buying stage: it’s for a lens with a matching 55 mm filter thread, so the fit is specific rather than universal. This Marumi suits someone who wants to practise deliberate long exposures without adding extra controls to the camera.
