Meike 85mm f/1.4 AF STM Lens FullFrame L Mount | Bright portrait reach

The Meike 85mm f/1.4 AF STM Lens FullFrame L Mount pairs an 85mm focal length with a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, giving portrait photographers and event shooters a short-telephoto view with room to work in dimmer light. It’s made for full-frame Leica L-mount cameras and uses autofocus, so you can keep your attention on expressions and the moment rather than focusing every shot by hand. The 29° angle of view gives portraits a focused, close perspective, while the wide aperture can help separate a subject from a softer-looking background. This fixed-focal-length lens is especially suited to individual portraits, couples and event coverage where you can choose your position. It’s a considered option for photographers who want an 85mm portrait perspective and the flexibility of f/1.4, without carrying a zoom.

Specialist Note

In use, the AF STM setup lets you keep your attention on expression and timing instead of turning a focus ring for every frame. At f/1.4, you can work with less available light than at a narrower aperture, and the shallow focus can draw attention to a portrait subject; place the focus on the nearer eye. The 85mm view on full frame suits head-and-shoulders portraits and candid moments at events, where a little distance helps you frame people naturally. For a moving subject, try around 1/250 sec and adjust ISO to suit the light. It is a prime, so you’ll need to move to change your framing—worth bearing in mind in tight rooms.
