At 8mm, this Meike gives you a pronounced fisheye perspective for scenes where you want the surroundings to play a strong part in the picture. It’s an interchangeable ultra-wide prime for Nikon mount, with landscape and architecture as its strongest uses. The wide view can bring a sweeping stretch of scenery into one frame, while the fisheye character makes curved lines part of the composition. That can be a striking way to photograph buildings, but it’s less suited to pictures where straight lines need to look natural. The maximum f/3.5 aperture gives you some room to work when the light is lower. This lens will appeal to photographers who want a deliberately broad, distinctive viewpoint and are happy to compose around its effect, rather than looking for an everyday wide-angle look.

Specialist Note

The Meike MK 8mm f/3.5 Nikon Mount is at its best making expansive fisheye views of landscapes and architecture. At 8mm, a nearby foreground detail can take on plenty of visual weight, so I’d place something like a rock or doorway deliberately in the frame rather than let it creep in by accident. For a building, you can use the curved lines as part of the composition; if you want a more natural-looking facade, this isn’t the lens I’d reach for. The f/3.5 maximum aperture gives you a brighter setting to work with as the light drops. I’d suggest it to someone who wants that distinctive fisheye look and enjoys composing with it.
