Metabones Leica R - Micro 4/3 SUPER16 Speed Booster (0.58X)

Metabones Leica R - Micro 4/3 SUPER16 Speed Booster (0.58X) | A wider view from Leica R lenses

When Leica R lenses don’t give you the framing you want on a Micro 4/3 setup, a straightforward mount adapter may not address the view you’re after. This Metabones converter is a Leica R–to–Micro 4/3 SUPER16 Speed Booster, with a 0.58x reduction factor. That makes it relevant to photographers who want focal reduction when adapting Leica R lenses, rather than simply joining two mounts. It’s a focused option for a setup built around Leica R glass where a wider view is part of the reason for adapting a lens. The SUPER16 name identifies this particular version, and the 0.58x figure tells you the reduction factor to look for. One honest point: this isn’t a general-purpose converter for every adapting need. Its appeal rests on the focal-reduction function, so that should be central to the way you want to use your lenses.

Choosing a focal reducer

Start with the kind of framing you want from your adapted lens. A focal reducer is worth considering when your priority is a broader view, rather than simply attaching a lens and keeping the same framing approach. That distinction makes the product easier to assess: think about the images you want to make, then decide whether focal reduction is useful to that work. The 0.58x marking gives you a concrete figure to compare when choosing a converter. SUPER16 is also part of the product’s stated name, so it’s worth keeping that exact designation in mind when identifying this model. For a photographer already working with Leica R lenses, the decision is less about adding another accessory and more about whether this particular optical approach suits the way you compose. If it does, the product’s purpose is clear; if it doesn’t, a simple mount connection may be all you’re looking for.
