Nikon HB-119 Lens Hood | Shade your lens from off-axis light

The defining detail of the Nikon HB-119 is its role as a lens hood: an accessory intended to shade a lens from light arriving from outside the picture. That can be useful when you're photographing outdoors or working near bright light, where light striking the lens at an angle may affect the image. The HB-119 suits photographers who want a hood for their lens and value a straightforward accessory rather than another camera control to manage. Its name identifies it as a Nikon lens hood, but the name alone isn't a reason to assume a particular lens pairing. In use, the effect depends on where the light is coming from; a hood won't remove flare caused by a bright source inside the frame. If you have a lens in mind, our team can help you establish whether this is the hood for it.

Specialist Note

Photographers making outdoor portraits or street scenes are the people I'd first talk to about using a lens hood: those settings often put strong light just beyond the edge of the frame. The Nikon HB-119 is identified as a lens hood, so think of it as an accessory for managing that kind of off-axis light, not as a change to how your camera operates. For a portrait, watch the light near the frame edge and use the hood to shade the lens; for a street scene, the same approach can help when bright light comes from the side. One honest point: it can't block a light source that's actually in the picture. I can help you work out the right lens pairing at the counter.
