Nikon HB-74 Lens Hood For AF-S 24-70 f/2.8 E FL VR | Help reduce stray-light flare

In bright or backlit scenes, a lens hood can help keep stray light from reaching the lens and causing flare in your pictures. The Nikon HB-74 is made for use with the AF-S 24-70 f/2.8 E FL VR lens, giving owners of that specific zoom a dedicated hood rather than a generic accessory. It’s useful when a light source sits just outside your frame, or when you’re working near a bright window and want to reduce unwanted reflections. Fit it to the named lens when conditions call for it, then compose as usual. The benefit is practical: fewer distractions from stray light can help preserve the look of the scene you’re photographing. This is a focused accessory for photographers who already use that Nikon lens and want a hood intended for it.

Specialist Note

24–70 is the zoom range this hood is intended for, so it’s a good match if you move between wider environmental frames and tighter portraits on the same lens. The f/2.8 designation tells you the lens can maintain a bright maximum aperture; the hood has a different job, helping limit stray light rather than changing exposure. I’d use it for backlit portraits or a scene with a bright window just outside the frame: attach the HB-74 and check the edges for flare as you compose. It suits owners of this specific zoom. Its purpose is focused, and it won’t replace the lens’s own exposure or focusing controls.
