Nikon HB-90 Lens Hood For The Z 50 f/1.8 S
Nikon HB-90 Lens Hood For The Z 50 f/1.8 S | Helps keep stray light off the lens
Without a lens hood, you may find yourself shading the lens with your hand when bright light comes in from the side. The Nikon HB-90 is a hood for the Z 50 f/1.8 S lens, giving you a more convenient way to manage that stray light while you shoot. It’s suited to Nikon Z photographers who use this particular lens for portraits, everyday scenes or work near a bright window, and want the hood ready rather than reaching for a hand-made shade. The HB-90 is black, so it keeps a discreet look alongside the lens. A hood can help reduce unwanted flare, though it can’t compensate for every lighting angle; if a bright source is directly in front of the lens, changing your position may still be needed. For regular use with the named lens, it’s a simple, purpose-specific accessory.
Specialist Note
At f/1.8, I’d use the Z 50 f/1.8 S for a portrait near a window, with the HB-90 fitted if the light is spilling across the front of the lens. That wide aperture lets you work in softer indoor light; for a still subject, try around 1/125 sec and adjust ISO to suit the room. The 50mm focal length gives you a natural-feeling view for portraits and everyday details, without needing to stand very close. This hood makes most sense if that’s the lens you use often. It won’t block direct light from every angle, so a small change in shooting position can still matter.
