PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 77mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 77mm - McKinnon Series | Control exposure with a softened look
Its defining design choice is combining variable neutral-density control with polarisation in one filter. That gives filmmakers and photographers a way to manage incoming light and reflections without changing between those two filter types. The Black Mist designation points to a softened rendering, so this is for people who want that look as part of the image rather than a completely neutral finish. The 2–5 marking makes it suited to situations where you need adjustable light reduction, while the polarising element can help manage reflections. Its 77mm size is the key fit detail: match it to a lens with a 77mm filter thread. This McKinnon Series filter will make most sense for video makers balancing exposure in changing light, and for photographers who want exposure control with a more diffused character in the picture.
Specialist Note
For filmmakers moving between bright exteriors and shaded scenes, this filter brings exposure control and polarisation together in a single piece of glass. The 2–5 VND range gives you room to adjust the light reduction as the scene changes; that can help you keep your chosen shutter setting rather than constantly altering exposure elsewhere. Its 77mm size is straightforward to work with if your lens has a matching filter thread. I’d also keep the Black Mist look in mind while composing: it’s a deliberate softening, not a neutral finish. If you want a crisp, untouched rendering, this particular look may not suit the shot.
