PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 95mm - McKinnon Series
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 95mm - McKinnon Series | Control exposure with a softer look
PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 2-5 - Black Mist - 95mm - McKinnon Series combines a 2–5-stop variable ND range with polarizing functionality and a Black Mist look. It’s made for photographers and video makers who want to manage light and shape the rendering in one filter. The variable ND range lets you reduce incoming light across its stated range, while the Black Mist effect gives images a softer treatment of highlights and contrast. That makes it especially suited to daylight video, outdoor portraits and scenes where you want a less crisp, more atmospheric finish. The polarizing function adds another way to control how light is rendered in a scene. At 95mm, it’s a large-format filter, so it’s worth thinking about how it will fit into your shooting setup. This is a creative filter as well as an exposure tool; the Black Mist look is part of the result, not something you can switch off within the filter.
Specialist Note
As daylight shifts, the 2–5-stop variable range gives you room to cut light without immediately changing your exposure choices. I’d use the lighter end for outdoor portraits when you want the Black Mist treatment to soften bright highlights, then move further into the range for daylight video where you need more light reduction. The VND/PL designation brings variable ND and polarizing functionality together, which is handy when you want to manage both exposure and the look of reflected light with one filter. Keep in mind that 2–5 stops is a moderate range; in very bright conditions, you may still need to adjust your camera settings. It suits image-makers who want a deliberately softer finish alongside exposure control.
