Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Grey (Pair)

Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Grey (Pair) | Help tame wind noise on lav mics

Wind is less likely to overwhelm spoken audio when a lavalier microphone has a windshield in place. The Radius Mini Urchin LAV Windshield Grey (Pair) is a set of two small windshields for lav microphones, suited to anyone recording speech where air movement may reach the mic. That could be an outdoor interview, a piece to camera or a conversation recorded near an open window. A windshield won’t remove every source of noise, but it can help soften wind hitting the microphone. The Mini name points to a compact format, useful when you want a cover without drawing more attention than necessary. Grey gives you an alternative to a dark-looking accessory, and having two means you can prepare a pair of lav mics for a two-person recording. It’s a focused accessory for keeping wind in mind as part of your mic setup.

For speech recording

For an interview, fit a windshield to each lav mic before you begin, then make a short test recording in the place you’ll be working. Listen for wind rumble and adjust the mic position if it’s still distracting. The pair is handy when both speakers are miked; for a single speaker, you’ll have the second windshield ready for another setup. Its grey colour may suit a setup where a dark cover would be more noticeable. Keep expectations sensible: a windshield can help with wind at the microphone, but it doesn’t replace choosing a sheltered recording position when conditions are rough.
