Radius Shotgun Mic Foam Windshield MKH 50
Radius Shotgun Mic Foam Windshield MKH 50 | Tame light wind on location
Keep speech recordings clearer when a little moving air would otherwise distract from the voice. The Radius Shotgun Mic Foam Windshield MKH 50 is a foam windshield for use with the MKH 50 shotgun microphone. It’s intended for recording situations where wind can reach the microphone, such as an outdoor interview or dialogue near an open window. The aim is a cleaner, more usable voice recording without relying on your body or a nearby object to block the breeze. For a sound recordist, interviewer or filmmaker working with the named microphone, it’s a focused accessory for those moments when the air is moving but a larger wind-protection setup isn’t called for. Use it when light wind is the concern; it’s a straightforward way to add a layer of protection while keeping the microphone ready for spoken sound. It’s an uncomplicated, purpose-specific piece rather than a general recording accessory.
Specialist Note
This foam windshield gives the MKH 50 a direct layer of protection from light wind, instead of asking you to stand in just the right place to shelter it. Since it’s made for a shotgun microphone, I’d use it for outdoor dialogue or an interview beside an open window, with the mic aimed towards the speaker and the windshield in place before recording. The foam construction keeps the solution simple when you want to reduce wind interference without changing your recording setup. It suits sound recordists and filmmakers already working with the MKH 50. For stronger gusts, I wouldn’t expect foam alone to be the whole answer.
