Rodenstock PLC Digital Pro 58mm
Rodenstock PLC Digital 58mm | Tame reflections, shape the view
Without a polarizing filter, reflections from water or glass can dominate a scene, and strong blue skies may look pale in a photograph. The Rodenstock PLC Digital 58mm is a polarizing filter for photographers who want more control over those effects while shooting, rather than relying on editing afterwards. It can reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces and deepen the appearance of a blue sky when the shooting angle is right. The difference depends on the light and your position, so it won’t have the same effect in every frame. It’s especially relevant for landscapes, shopfronts, cars and scenes with water or glass in view. Use it when those reflections are getting in the way of what you want to show; for a scene without glare or a strong sky, you may see little benefit. The name gives you a 58mm size designation to match against your lens’s filter thread.
Specialist Note
At a glass-fronted shop window, I’d reach for the Rodenstock PLC Digital 58mm when reflections are competing with the display behind the glass. As a polarizing filter, it gives you a way to reduce that reflected light: turn the filter while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen, and stop where the balance looks right. The 58mm marking matters when choosing a filter for a lens; match it to the thread size, rather than assuming a filter that fits one lens will fit another. It suits careful landscape and street work, too. One limit: polarization depends on your angle to the light, so it can’t remove every reflection.
