Rycote 10cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (19/22)
Rycote 10cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (19/22) | Compact wind protection for SGM microphones
The Rycote 10cm SGM Foam & Windjammer (19/22) is a 10 cm foam and windjammer cover for SGM microphone setups. It’s for sound recordists who want a compact wind cover to use when recording speech or other sound outdoors. The 19/22 designation gives you a specific size to match when choosing the cover for your microphone. Foam and a windjammer make this a practical option when wind is a concern, while its short length keeps the setup focused around the microphone rather than adding a longer cover. It’s a specialised accessory, so the key is getting the size right for your SGM mic. If your work moves between sheltered locations and breezier outdoor settings, this combination gives you a straightforward way to add wind protection without changing the rest of your recording setup.
For location recording
A short wind cover can be handy when a longer assembly would get in the way of your working position. Think interviews, dialogue or location sound where you need to keep the microphone close to the subject and want a cover suited to an SGM setup. Fit the correctly sized cover before recording, then keep your mic position steady and make use of any available shelter when the wind picks up. The foam and windjammer are there to help manage wind at the microphone; they’re not a reason to ignore placement. For exposed locations or strong gusts, sensible positioning still matters.
Specialist Note
Fitting a short cover keeps the setup simple: you can add wind protection without building out a long windshield assembly. The 10 cm length is useful when you want to keep the microphone compact around a subject, while the 19/22 sizing gives you a clear fit reference for the SGM microphone you’re using. I’d consider it for outdoor dialogue or an interview where wind could reach the mic; fit the matching size before you start, then work close to a wall or other shelter if conditions allow. One practical limit: no cover can make mic placement irrelevant, so in gusty weather I’d still look for a more sheltered recording position.
