Rycote Hi Wind Cover 295
Rycote Hi Wind Cover 295 | Help keep wind off your microphone recordings
For recording outdoors when moving air can interfere with your sound, the Rycote Hi Wind Cover 295 is a microphone accessory intended to help reduce wind noise. It gives you a practical way to address a common problem in open-air recording, where wind across a microphone can distract from voices or ambience. The name identifies it as a Hi Wind Cover, with 295 as part of the product designation. That makes it relevant to anyone looking for this particular Rycote cover, rather than a general-purpose audio accessory. It suits sound recordists and video makers who need to capture speech or environmental sound in windy surroundings. Keep the goal simple: cover the microphone to help limit wind reaching it, while recording the sound you actually want. Since microphone fit can’t be established from the name alone, use the full product designation when identifying the cover you need.
Specialist Note
This cover’s job is to help tame wind at the microphone, instead of asking you to solve the problem later in editing. The “Hi Wind Cover” wording is the useful clue: it points to wind protection as the reason to choose this accessory, particularly for outdoor speech or location ambience. I’d keep the exact name, Rycote Hi Wind Cover 295, to hand when identifying it for a setup; the 295 is part of the designation, not a measurement I’d use to judge fit. It suits people recording where wind is a concern, but it won’t address unrelated background sounds. For a result you can use, cover the microphone and keep your subject’s voice or chosen ambience as the focus of the recording.
