Rycote Hi Wind Cover 4
Rycote Hi Wind Cover 4 | Help keep wind noise out of your recordings
Wind can quickly distract from speech or ambient sound in an outdoor recording. The Rycote Hi Wind Cover 4 is a microphone accessory made for that challenge: a wind cover intended to help reduce wind noise reaching the microphone. It suits people recording dialogue, interviews or location sound where moving air could otherwise interrupt a take. The practical benefit is straightforward: you can focus on capturing the sound you want, rather than letting gusts dominate it. Use it as part of your microphone setup when recording outdoors or in another breezy setting. The product name identifies it as a wind cover, but doesn’t tell us which microphones it fits, so don’t assume it will suit every mic. If you’re matching accessories to a particular microphone, fit is the detail to establish before relying on it for a session. It’s a focused accessory for a specific recording problem, not a general-purpose microphone upgrade.
Specialist Note
Newcomers often try to solve wind noise by changing recording levels, but that won’t stop air hitting the microphone. The Hi Wind Cover 4 is made for the wind side of that problem, so consider it for outdoor interviews or location ambience when breezes are likely to disrupt a take. I’d keep the full name, including “4”, to hand when identifying this particular cover; it’s a specific part of the product name, not a measurement I’d use to judge fit. One practical point: a cover can only help if it suits the microphone you’re using, so establish that match before building it into your setup.
