Rycote Sennheiser HMD 25-1 Headset Mini Windjammer
Rycote Sennheiser HMD 25-1 Headset Mini Windjammer | Helps tame wind on headset recordings
Its defining feature is the specific pairing: this mini windjammer is made for the Sennheiser HMD 25-1 headset, rather than being a general microphone accessory. It’s for people who use that headset and want help reducing wind reaching its microphone during recording. That makes it especially relevant for outdoor interviews, reporting and other voice recordings where moving air can interfere with the sound. A windjammer can help with that particular problem, but it isn’t a way to remove other sounds from a recording. The compact format also suits setups where a larger microphone cover would be unnecessary. If you already work with the named headset, this is a focused accessory to consider when wind is part of the recording environment; it doesn’t replace the headset or change what it’s designed to do.
Using the Mini Windjammer
Think of it as a small, targeted addition for recording voice in open air. Use it with the specified headset when a breeze may reach the microphone, such as during an outdoor interview or a piece to camera. It addresses wind at the microphone, so choose a quieter position as well if traffic or nearby conversation could distract from the voice. That way, the accessory is doing the job it’s intended for, without expecting it to solve unrelated sound problems.
Specialist Note
The Rycote Sennheiser HMD 25-1 Headset Mini Windjammer is a focused solution for reducing wind on that headset’s microphone. I’d consider it for outdoor speech recording: fit it for an interview or a short report when moving air is likely to disturb the voice. The named HMD 25-1 pairing makes the choice clear, rather than leaving you to guess which headset it’s intended for. It’s black, so it won’t add a bright patch to the setup. One practical limit: it’s aimed at wind, not general background noise, so keep an eye out for busy surroundings too.
