Rycote Special 80 Sphere/Red NT4 Mini Windjammer
Rycote Special 80 Sphere/Red NT4 Mini Windjammer | Help tame wind noise on your NT4
Without a wind cover, even a light breeze can add distracting noise to an outdoor recording. The Rycote Special 80 Sphere/Red NT4 Mini Windjammer is a microphone accessory named for the NT4, designed to help reduce that problem when recording outside. It suits NT4 owners who record speech, music or ambient sound where wind might reach the microphone. The practical appeal is its focused purpose: you can add a windjammer for a recording session instead of accepting wind noise as part of the take. It’s worth considering for location work, from a quiet interview in a garden to capturing the sound of a breezy street. The supplier lists this version as black, so it keeps a low-key look on the microphone. It’s a specific accessory, rather than a general recording solution; its job is to help with wind.
Specialist Note
At a breezy outdoor interview, I’d fit this to the NT4 before setting up the recording. The NT4 in the name makes the intended microphone clear, so I’d choose it for that setup rather than assume it’s a universal wind cover. “Mini” is part of the specific product designation too; match the full name to your microphone accessory needs instead of choosing by appearance alone. For spoken audio or outdoor ambience, fitting a windjammer before you start can help keep gusts from becoming the most noticeable part of a take. It’s a focused accessory, so it won’t address other recording issues, but for wind around an NT4 it’s a sensible piece to have ready.
