Rycote Windjammer WJ 295
Rycote Windjammer WJ 295 | Helps reduce wind in microphone recordings
The defining choice here is the windjammer format: it’s made to help limit the effect of wind on microphone recordings. The Rycote Windjammer WJ 295 is a microphone accessory for situations where moving air can get between a mic and clear sound. That makes it relevant for outdoor interviews, spoken pieces recorded on location, or other scenes where a breeze may interfere with the recording. Its purpose is specific: helping with wind, rather than changing how you record or adding another microphone function. If most of your recording happens in a sheltered room, this is less likely to be the accessory you reach for often. For work outside, it’s a practical option to consider when wind is part of the setting. The name identifies the product, but doesn’t describe a particular microphone fit, so I’d avoid assuming it suits a given mic without checking that match.
Specialist Note
A light breeze picks up during an outdoor interview, and the speaker’s words matter more than the rustle around them. That’s the sort of moment a windjammer is intended for: the WJ 295 is a Rycote microphone accessory whose job is to help reduce wind interference in a recording. I’d consider it for location speech or a quiet outdoor scene, where wind can distract from what you’re trying to capture. The “WJ 295” name is useful when you’re identifying this exact model; the broader point is that it’s a wind accessory, not a microphone in its own right. It’s most relevant outdoors, and less so for a controlled indoor recording. I wouldn’t guess at its fit for a particular mic from the name alone.
