Rycote Windjammer WJ AG
Rycote Windjammer WJ AG | Help reduce wind noise on microphone recordings
Wind can distract from speech or other sounds in an outdoor recording. The Rycote Windjammer WJ AG is a microphone accessory intended to help reduce that problem, making it relevant for recording on location where moving air may reach the microphone. It suits people who want a wind cover as part of their microphone setup, whether they’re capturing spoken audio outdoors or recording ambient sound. The practical benefit is a better chance of keeping wind noise from dominating the recording; it won’t remove every sound from a breezy location. Think of it as help with one specific challenge, rather than a fix for noisy surroundings. For the clearest result, use it when wind is reaching the microphone and choose a position that gives the mic some shelter when possible. That way, the Windjammer can support the recording without asking it to do the work of good placement.
Specialist Note
As a microphone accessory, the WJ AG is for a very particular job: helping manage wind at the mic. I’d consider it for outdoor spoken-word recording, such as an interview, or for capturing ambient sound where a breeze could become prominent. Fit the wind cover as intended around the microphone, then place the mic out of the strongest airflow where you can; shelter and a wind cover can work together. I like that its purpose is easy to understand, but it’s no substitute for choosing a sensible recording position in strong wind. If your recording is indoors and air movement isn’t reaching the mic, this is unlikely to be the accessory you need.
