Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Sony | Wide views for landscapes, buildings and night skies

A narrow view can leave out the sweep of a mountain range, the full height of a building or enough sky for an astrophotography composition. This Samyang is an interchangeable ultra-wide prime for Sony, with a 10mm focal length to bring a broad scene into the frame. It suits photographers who want to work close to a landscape or architectural subject while still including plenty of its surroundings. The maximum f/2.8 aperture also makes it a considered option for night-sky photography, where gathering light matters. As a prime lens, it gives you one focal length to compose with, rather than a zoom range; moving your position becomes part of shaping the picture. For architecture, pay attention to how the wide perspective renders lines and space. For landscapes, look for a strong foreground to give that expansive view a clear point of focus.

Specialist Note

For a night-sky frame, I’d start at f/2.8 and use the 10mm view to include both a foreground feature and plenty of sky. That wide angle gives you room to build a scene around the stars, while the maximum aperture lets more light in than a smaller opening would. I’d also consider this lens for architecture when the building is close and stepping back isn’t practical; keep the camera level if you want the vertical lines to stay more natural. It’s best suited to deliberate landscape, building and astro compositions. One point to keep in mind: at 10mm, nearby objects can take over the frame, so check the edges before you shoot.
