Its 24-60mm coverage moves from a wide view for scenery and interiors to a natural perspective for portraits, without changing lenses. That combination makes it a useful central lens for travel, landscape work and people photography. The constant aperture is especially welcome when light drops: you can keep the same maximum opening as you zoom, rather than losing brightness at the long end. At 494g, it also keeps the overall kit comparatively light for a full-frame zoom with this aperture. What the glass does

• Close focusing: At the wide end, it focuses as close as 18cm and reaches 0.27× magnification. At the long end, the closest distance is 32cm with 0.25× magnification, useful for filling the frame with details without swapping lenses.
• Optical construction: The 14 elements in 11 groups include three aspherical, three high-refractive and two extra-low-dispersion elements. Samyang’s UMC coating is used to help control reflections and preserve contrast and colour.
• Autofocus for stills and video: A linear STM motor drives autofocus quietly, while an AF/MF switch gives direct access to manual focus when you want to make a fine adjustment.
• Nine-blade aperture: The nine-blade diaphragm shapes out-of-focus highlights into a rounded appearance, a useful detail for portrait backgrounds and close-up subjects.
• Protection and finish: The aluminium barrel has dust and splash protection, plus a water- and oil-repellent coating. These details are reassuring for travel and outdoor use, though the lens isn’t a substitute for care in severe weather.
• 72mm filter thread: The front accepts 72mm screw-in filters, so you can use compatible filters for landscape work without relying on a special holder.
