Saramonic FWS101 Foam Windscreen
Saramonic FWS101 Foam Windscreen | Help keep wind off your audio
During a spoken recording, a small breath burst or a little moving air can become an unwanted thump at the microphone. The Saramonic FWS101 Foam Windscreen is a foam microphone accessory intended to put a barrier between the mic and that air. Its purpose is straightforward: help reduce wind and breath disturbance, so speech is easier to listen to when those sounds would otherwise draw attention away from the voice. That makes it relevant for people recording interviews, voice notes or short pieces to camera, especially when they want a simple accessory rather than a device with settings to manage. The foam format keeps the idea uncomplicated: add wind protection at the microphone, then focus on the recording itself. It’s a practical addition to consider for a spoken-word setup where mild airflow is the nuisance. It won’t turn challenging wind into a controlled recording environment, so treat it as a modest aid, not a complete answer to every outdoor sound problem.
Specialist Note
The foam surface is the key physical detail: it creates a soft barrier in front of the microphone, which can take the edge off breath and gentle airflow before they distract from speech. I’d consider the FWS101 for a sit-down interview, a voice note, or a short piece to camera when you want a simple windscreen rather than another control to manage. The name tells you what it is—a foam windscreen—so I’d keep its role focused on modest air disturbance, not hard gusts. My practical advice is to match its physical fit to the microphone you plan to use; don’t assume a windscreen is universal just because the job sounds simple. For spoken-word recording, that’s a sensible, uncomplicated use.
