Schneider CF Diopter Split +2 GEN2 138mm Drop
Schneider CF Diopter Split +2 GEN2 138mm Drop | Shape focus across two distances
Schneider CF Diopter Split +2 GEN2 138mm Drop pairs +2 diopter strength with a 138mm drop format. It’s intended for filmmakers and photographers who want a close subject and a more distant subject to read clearly in the same composition. A split diopter places different focus zones across the frame, letting you build a shot around foreground detail and a face or scene behind it rather than choosing just one distance. The effect rewards careful framing: the division between those zones can be visible, so it helps to place it along a natural edge in the image. This is a specialist tool for deliberate compositions, not a general-purpose filter for changing the look of every scene. If split-plane focus is part of your visual plan, the +2 strength gives you a defined close-up effect in a drop-in format.
Specialist Note
Filmmakers framing a close object against a sharply focused face or background are the people I’d point toward this Schneider. The +2 diopter gives the near section its close-up effect, so build the frame around a foreground detail and set the lens focus to bring the distant subject into the other focus zone. With a split diopter, the join between zones can show; I’d position it against a natural line in the scene rather than across a face. The 138mm drop format matters when planning the rig: it calls for a setup that accepts that size and format. It’s a considered tool for composed shots, not a filter I’d choose for an invisible transition.
