SmallHD 17-1231 Ultra 5 Lens Hood | Shade the Ultra 5 screen

A shaded screen is easier to view when bright surroundings make monitoring uncomfortable. The SmallHD 17-1231 Ultra 5 Lens Hood is an accessory for the Ultra 5, intended to shade its display from surrounding light. It suits SmallHD Ultra 5 users who monitor outdoors, work beside bright windows or simply want a more sheltered screen while setting up a shot. The benefit is practical: less ambient light falling directly on the display can make it easier to judge what you’re seeing. This is a focused add-on for the Ultra 5, rather than a general-purpose accessory. It doesn’t change the monitor’s picture or settings; its job is to provide shade. If you spend time checking a monitor in changing light, that straightforward purpose is the reason to consider it. The product name identifies the model and its role clearly, so it’s easy to match to an Ultra 5 setup.

Specialist Note

The SmallHD 17-1231 Ultra 5 Lens Hood is for shading the Ultra 5 display when surrounding light gets in the way. I’d consider it for location monitoring in daylight or for a workstation near a bright window: position the monitor so the screen is out of direct light, then use the hood to help keep the display easier to read. SmallHD names the Ultra 5 specifically, which makes this a targeted accessory rather than a universal screen shade. The “Lens Hood” part of the name describes its practical role here: blocking light around the viewing area, not changing the monitor’s image. It’s a simple, purpose-specific addition; it won’t replace adjusting the screen position when the light shifts.
