Sontronics DM-1B Condenser Microphone For Kick Drum & Bass
Sontronics DM-1B Condenser Microphone For Kick Drum & Bass | A focused mic for low-end recording
Sontronics DM-1B is a condenser microphone made for kick drum and bass, giving musicians and recording enthusiasts a mic with a clearly defined role. It’s suited to recording setups where those sources need their own place in the session, rather than being treated as an afterthought. Use it for a kick drum part, a bass recording, or both across separate takes. The name tells you what this microphone is intended to serve; there’s no need to guess whether it’s aimed at general-purpose use. That focus can make choosing a microphone for a bass-led session more straightforward. If you’re building a recording kit around particular instruments, the DM-1B is a considered option for those low-end parts. It won’t answer every microphone need in a studio, but that isn’t its stated job. It’s for recording kick drum and bass.
A focused role in your setup
Think of the DM-1B as a source-specific part of your recording plan. Give the kick drum its own microphone track, or use it when the bass part is the focus of a take. Keeping those jobs clear can make it easier to work on each part of a recording in turn. If your sessions regularly move between very different sound sources, you may want other microphones in the setup too.
Specialist Note
The room settles after the band finishes a take, and the kick drum is ready for its own recording pass. That’s a natural moment for the DM-1B: it’s a condenser microphone with kick drum and bass as its named subjects. I’d consider it for a player recording a bass part at home, or for a band that wants a dedicated mic for the kick; give each source its own track so you can work on it separately in the session. Its brief is quite specific, which is useful if those are your priorities, but I wouldn’t buy it expecting one mic to cover every instrument in the room.
