Sontronics STC-2 Black Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
Sontronics STC-2 Black Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone | For vocals and spoken-word recording
The STC-2 brings a large-diaphragm condenser design to vocal and spoken-word recording, making it a straightforward option to consider when choosing a dedicated microphone for a recording setup. It suits home recordists, podcasters and musicians who want a microphone for capturing a voice, or for recording an instrument in a controlled space. The large-diaphragm format is often chosen for close-miked sources such as vocals; it gives you a clear place to start when planning a simple recording arrangement. Its condenser type also makes it a studio-oriented microphone rather than an all-in-one recorder. The name tells you what you’re buying: a black Sontronics STC-2 microphone, with no extra claims about its sound or connections. If you’re comparing microphones, focus on whether this type and intended use fit your setup and the recordings you want to make.
Specialist Note
2 is part of the STC-2’s model name; in practice, it identifies this specific Sontronics microphone, not a setting you need to adjust. I’d consider its large-diaphragm format for a vocal or spoken-word recording where the microphone can stay in place, rather than for a setup built around recording on the move. The condenser design makes it a dedicated recording tool, so think about the rest of your recording arrangement as well as the mic itself. Its black finish is understated if the microphone will be visible at a desk or in a video. For a first look at the STC-2, I’d start by matching it to the voice or instrument you plan to record.
