Tiffen 44BDFX5 4x4 Black Diffusion 5 Filter
Tiffen 44BDFX5 4x4 Black Diffusion 5 Filter | A softer, gentler image
Faces and bright details take on a softer, less sharply etched look with the Tiffen 44BDFX5 Black Diffusion 5 filter. It’s made for image-makers who want diffusion as part of the picture, rather than relying on a digital effect afterwards. That can suit portraits, close-ups and scenes where a very crisp rendering feels too clinical. The result depends on the scene and how you frame it, so it’s worth deciding what you want softened before you shoot. This is a dedicated diffusion filter, not a UV filter despite the shop category it may appear under. Choose it for the look its name describes: a deliberately diffused image. If you’re building a filter setup for controlled, repeatable image-making, its 4x4 format gives you a clear size to match to your equipment.
Specialist Note
The Tiffen 44BDFX5 is for giving an image a pronounced diffusion character. The 4x4 format is practical when your setup is built around filters of that size, but do make the size match part of your planning. Black Diffusion 5 is the specific grade here; I’d consider it when you want the softening to be an intentional part of a portrait or a close-up, rather than a barely noticeable adjustment. Keep the composition simple and pay attention to bright areas in the frame, since they contribute strongly to the finished look. It’s a focused creative filter, not a general-purpose UV filter.
