Tiffen 44WBDFX1 4x4 Warm Black Diff 1 Filter
Tiffen 44WBDFX1 4x4 Warm Black Diff 1 Filter | Warmth and softer highlights
Highlights take on a softer, warmer character, while the image keeps the distinctive look of black diffusion. The Tiffen 44WBDFX1 is a 4x4 filter for photographers and cinematographers who want that effect as part of the image itself, rather than something to add later. Its Warm Black Diff 1 designation combines a warm shift with a diffusion effect, making it worth considering for portraits, close-ups and scenes with bright practical lights where you want highlights to feel less crisp. The 1 grade gives you a defined level of diffusion, so the effect is intentional rather than simply a general soft-focus look. This isn’t a neutral filter for protecting a lens or cleaning up ultraviolet light; it’s a creative choice that changes the rendering. If you’re shaping a particular mood in camera, it offers a direct way to bring warmth and softer highlight character into the shot.
Specialist Note
People new to diffusion sometimes expect a blurred picture; this filter is better understood as a way to change highlight character and add warmth. The 4x4 format gives you a square filter size to work with, which matters when you’re planning a setup around that format. The Warm Black Diff 1 name tells you the two parts of its look: a warm bias and a defined diffusion grade. I’d consider it for a portrait where bright highlights feel too sharp, or for a scene with practical lights when you want a softer, warmer impression. Keep in mind that this is an expressive filter, not a neutral one, so it suits shots where you want that look to remain part of the image.
