Tiffen FW3ND9 Filter Wheel 3 ND0.9
Tiffen FW3ND9 Filter Wheel 3 ND0.9 | Three stops of exposure control
Tiffen FW3ND9 Filter Wheel 3 ND0.9 is a filter-wheel product with an ND0.9 designation, for photographers and filmmakers working with a filter-wheel setup. An ND filter reduces the light reaching the camera, and ND0.9 corresponds to three stops of exposure. That gives you room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture while keeping the same exposure. For example, if your meter reads 1/30 sec, you can use 1/4 sec at the same aperture and ISO. This can help show movement in water or other moving subjects in a bright scene. The product name identifies a filter wheel, so it’s best considered as part of a wheel-based workflow rather than assumed to be a standalone screw-in filter. Its defining appeal is a measured three-stop reduction: useful when you want a modest exposure change, rather than a very dense filter.
Specialist Note
Late-afternoon light glints across a canal, and the ripples are moving just enough to soften with a longer exposure. The filter-wheel format makes this a product to consider when your setup is built around a wheel, not when you’re simply looking for a screw-in filter. Its ND0.9 rating gives three stops of reduction: with a reading of 1/30 sec, keep your aperture and ISO fixed and try 1/4 sec for a little movement in the water. You can also use those stops to open the aperture instead. I’d recommend it to someone who wants a specific, moderate reduction; for very long exposures in strong daylight, three stops may not be enough on its own.
