Tokina 127mm Pro IRND 1.8
Tokina 127mm Pro IRND 1.8 | Control bright light for longer exposures
Bright light can force you into a fast shutter speed just when you want movement to blur, or make it difficult to keep your chosen exposure. The Tokina 127mm Pro IRND 1.8 is a neutral-density filter: it reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you more room to choose a slower shutter speed in bright conditions. Its IRND designation identifies it as an infrared neutral-density filter, made for situations where managing infrared light matters alongside visible light. That makes it relevant to photographers and filmmakers working with controlled exposure, especially when they need a consistent look in strong light. It’s a specialist filter rather than an everyday fix for every scene; its value is having a defined density for a deliberate exposure adjustment. If you’re planning a shot around motion blur or a particular shutter speed, this filter can help you keep that creative decision instead of letting the brightness dictate it.
Working with the 1.8 density
A density of 1.8 corresponds to six stops of light reduction. That’s a substantial change, so plan your exposure around the filter rather than treating it as a small trim. It’s especially useful when a modest reduction wouldn’t give you enough room to slow the shutter in bright conditions.
Specialist Note
“Is the Tokina 127mm Pro IRND 1.8 a strong filter?” Yes — its 1.8 density cuts six stops, so it gives you meaningful control when bright light would otherwise keep your shutter speed high. The 127mm format is a sizeable filter, so it suits a setup built to work with that filter size, rather than a casual add-on for any lens. For motion blur in daylight, use the six-stop reduction to bring the shutter speed down while keeping your intended exposure. It also suits controlled video work where you want to hold a chosen shutter speed. Just remember that this is a substantial density, not a subtle exposure adjustment.
