Tokina Cinema 100mm Macro T2.9 PL (Meter) | Controlled detail for cinema close-ups

Fine textures and small subjects can fill the frame with purpose, making the Tokina Cinema 100mm Macro T2.9 PL (Meter) a specialist lens for close-up cinema work. Its macro design is suited to product details and nature subjects, as well as other scenes where small features deserve careful attention. The PL mount makes it relevant to productions built around PL-mount equipment, while manual focus gives the operator direct control over where detail falls. That suits considered shots where focus needs to be placed deliberately rather than left to automation. It’s an interchangeable cinema lens for filmmakers who want to make close subjects the centre of the image, whether that means showing the finish of a product or drawing attention to fine detail in the natural world. The 100mm focal length and T2.9 maximum aperture give you a defined starting point for framing and exposure.

Specialist Note

100mm gives close-up compositions a focused, deliberate feel: you can make a small detail the subject rather than letting the wider scene compete for attention. At T2.9, you have a defined exposure setting to work with when light is limited; close-up focus still rewards care, so don’t treat the wide aperture as a shortcut to keeping every detail sharp. I’d consider it for a product shot where a surface or component needs to read clearly, or for nature detail framed with a restrained background. Manual focus means you’ll place focus yourself, which suits a controlled setup but calls for a steady, attentive hand during a take.
