Street scenes can take on a miniature-world look when a narrow band stays sharp and the surrounding buildings and traffic fall softly out of focus. The TTArtisan Tilt 35mm f/1.4 APS-C - Fuji X is a manual-focus standard prime with an 8° tilt mechanism for changing the position of the focus plane. Used without tilt, it works as a conventional prime; tilt adds a distinctly different way to shape focus. For travel photography, that selective blur can give a busy square or a row of rooftops a playful, model-like appearance. The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is useful when light fades on evening walks, allowing you to work with a lower ISO than a slower maximum aperture would require. Tilt can also be used in the opposite direction: align the focus plane with a diagonal subject, such as a façade receding through the frame, and keep more of that line sharp. For video, the aperture ring turns without clicks and has a gear profile for follow-focus-style control. This is a lens for making deliberate choices about where a viewer looks, rather than relying on autofocus to make them for you.

What the glass does

• 8° tilt movement: The tilt works to either side, shifting the focus plane for selective blur or increased depth of field. It’s the feature behind the lens’s distinctive miniature-style effect.
• Full rotation: The tilt assembly rotates through 360°, with markings at 15° intervals. Set the direction of the focus plane to suit the orientation of the subject.
• Separate locks: Screws secure the tilt and rotation settings independently. Once positioned, the adjustments can be held in place while you compose.
• Clickless aperture ring: The ring changes aperture smoothly rather than in stepped clicks. That continuous movement is useful for video, where an audible or visible jump between settings can be distracting.
• Cine-style gear profile: The aperture ring has a gear edge for follow-focus equipment, adding a more controlled way to adjust exposure during filming.
• 7 elements in 6 groups: This optical construction works for both tilted compositions and conventional use, drawing on the central image area when tilt is not engaged.
