Ulanzi SL01 Spark Lite Mini Cameraflitser | Flash for events, portraits and fill light

The defining decision is right in the name: Ulanzi has made the SL01 a mini speedlight, for adding flash without making a larger flash unit the focus of your setup. It suits photographers who want an extra light option for events, indoor portraits or bright outdoor scenes. As a speedlight, it gives you a direct burst of light when the available light needs a lift. Indoors, that can help bring more light onto a portrait; outside, fill flash can soften the effect of harsh sunlight on a subject. Its best fit is those moments when the existing light needs a little help, rather than a broader lighting setup. The product’s mini format makes it a straightforward option to consider when you want a flash with you for these specific situations. If you’re choosing a flash for a particular job, start with the kind of light you need: this one is aimed at events, portraits indoors and fill light in harsh sun.

Specialist Note

At an event, a speedlight gives you a direct way to add flash when the room’s light isn’t doing enough. The SL01’s mini format makes that kind of help the point of the product, rather than building your setup around a larger flash. I’d consider it for indoor portraits, where an extra burst of light can help brighten the subject, and for portraits in harsh sun, where fill flash can reduce the stark effect of the light on their face. It’s also relevant for event photography, where lighting can change from one moment to the next. I’d keep its role focused: it’s a mini speedlight, not a reason to plan around a larger lighting setup.
