Urth 46mm Essentials Filter Kit Pro (UV CPL ND8 ND1000)

Urth 46mm Essentials Filter Kit Pro (UV CPL ND8 ND1000) | Four filter options for changing light

The defining decision is the 46mm filter size: it gives photographers with a matching lens thread a compact set of filters for different kinds of light and reflection. This kit brings together UV, CPL, ND8 and ND1000 filters, so you can choose an effect to suit the scene rather than rely on one filter for every situation. It suits landscape photographers, people who enjoy photographing water, and anyone who wants to experiment with longer exposures. The two ND filters are particularly useful when bright conditions make it hard to use a slower shutter speed; the CPL is for managing reflections and sky contrast. The kit’s appeal is its range of distinct jobs in one set. The trade-off is that its 46mm size is specific: it’s for lenses with a matching filter thread.

Choose the filter for the effect

The UV filter reduces ultraviolet light. A CPL can cut reflections from non-metallic surfaces and deepen the appearance of a blue sky when the shooting angle is right. ND8 reduces incoming light by three stops, while ND1000 reduces it by about ten. That makes the stronger ND filter the option for deliberately long exposures in bright daylight; ND8 gives you a less extreme reduction. These are different tools, not interchangeable strengths.
