Urth 49mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro

Urth 49mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro | Create longer exposures in bright light

Without a neutral density filter, bright daylight can leave you choosing between a faster shutter and the aperture you want. The Urth 49mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you room to use a longer exposure or a wider aperture while keeping exposure under control. It suits photographers who want to show movement in a still image, such as softening the flow of water or adding blur to passing clouds. It can also help when you want a shallower depth of field in bright conditions. This is a straightforward tool for deliberate exposure choices, rather than a filter for changing colour or adding effects. Its strongest use is when the scene is bright enough that your preferred shutter speed or aperture would otherwise be difficult to use.

Where a slower shutter helps

A longer exposure can turn moving water into a smoother-looking surface, or give motion through a busy scene a sense of direction. The result depends on how quickly the subject moves and how long the exposure lasts: a stream and a fast-moving person will render differently. Keep the camera steady for the parts of the frame you want sharp, and choose a shutter speed that gives the moving subject the amount of blur you want. The filter gives you more exposure flexibility; it doesn’t decide the look for you.
