Urth 58mm Magnetic CPL Filter Pro | Control reflections for clearer scenes

Bright reflections on a lake or shop window can hide the detail you wanted to photograph. The Urth 58mm Magnetic CPL Filter Pro is a circular polarising filter for photographers who want more control over reflections and glare, and over the look of a blue sky. Its 58mm size identifies the filter diameter, while the magnetic design is intended to make fitting and removing the filter more convenient. A CPL is most useful when you can adjust your position or the filter’s angle to change how much reflected light reaches the camera. That makes it a considered addition for landscape photographers, travel shooters and anyone photographing through or across reflective surfaces. It can help bring out detail that glare would otherwise wash over, though the result depends on the light and your shooting angle. Use it when that control matters, rather than leaving it on for every scene.

Specialist Note

Reflections can take over a frame before you realise how much detail they’ve hidden; this filter gives you a way to manage that. The magnetic fitting is handy if you expect to put the filter on and take it off during a session, rather than leaving it in place all day. Its 58mm size makes the intended filter diameter clear when matching it to your lens. I’d suggest it to someone who often photographs water, glass or open skies: adjust the polarising effect while watching the reflections or sky in your composition, and stop when the scene looks natural. It won’t erase every reflection, and a CPL can cost some light, so keep an eye on shutter speed in dim conditions.
