Urth 72mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro

Urth 72mm ND64 (6 Stop) Lens Filter Pro | Gain six stops of exposure control

The ND64 rating is the key to this Urth filter: it cuts the light reaching your camera by six stops, giving you room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture in bright conditions. It suits photographers who want to show movement in a scene, such as softening the flow of water, or who need more control over exposure in strong daylight. The 72mm size is for lenses with a matching 72mm filter thread, so it’s worth checking the marking on your lens before choosing a filter. This is a focused tool rather than an all-purpose accessory: its six-stop reduction is substantial, so it’s best when you have a clear reason to limit the light. If that’s the effect you’re after, the ND64 designation makes the strength straightforward to understand.

Planning your exposure

A six-stop reduction lets you lengthen the exposure while keeping the same aperture and ISO. For example, a shutter speed of 1/500 sec becomes about 1/8 sec after six stops of reduction. That slower setting can record movement as a blur rather than freezing it. The exact result depends on the light and your chosen settings, so use your camera’s meter or exposure preview to adjust from there.
