Westcott Deep Umbrella Silver Bounce (134.6cm)
Westcott Deep Umbrella Silver Bounce (134.6cm) | Broad, reflected light for flash portraits
On a portrait set, a bare flash can make the light feel too direct; a large umbrella gives you a broader surface to work with. The Westcott Deep Umbrella Silver Bounce is a flash modifier for photographers who want to reflect their flash through a sizeable umbrella rather than point it straight at the subject. Its 134.6cm diameter gives you a generous area to aim, which can suit individual portraits and small groups when you have room to position the light. It’s also a practical option for portrait photographers building a simple, adjustable lighting setup. You control the result by changing where the umbrella sits in relation to your subject and flash. That makes it useful when you want to shape the light on set, rather than rely on the bare flash alone.
Specialist Note
The silver bounce surface gives this umbrella a reflective face to work with, while its deep shape gives the flash a substantial form to fill. I’d consider it for a head-and-shoulders portrait when you want reflected flash to cover a broad area: aim the light through the umbrella toward your subject, then adjust its position until the face is lit as you want. It can also serve for a small product setup, where a broad reflected source helps light the item rather than leaving the flash pointed directly at it. It suits photographers with space to position a sizeable modifier; in a tight room, that 134.6cm span can be awkward.
