Wimberley AP-554 is a low-profile replacement foot for selected Nikon telephoto lenses, with a dual dovetail rail that accepts accessories on either side. It’s intended for photographers using the Nikon 500mm f/4 AF-S (I, II or VR) or 200-400mm f/4 AF-S VR who want a more secure, balanced connection to a tripod head. The foot is Arca-type compatible, so it fits a matching clamp directly; its 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded sockets also provide mounting points for tripod heads without that clamp. The dual rail is useful when you need to attach a compatible accessory above or below the foot, rather than giving up the lens mounting point. Wimberley’s lower-profile shape brings the lens closer to the head, lowering its centre of gravity compared with the original lens foot. That more compact connection also reduces flex and vibration while the lens is supported. Made from black anodised 6061 aluminium, the AP-554 weighs 173g: a solid replacement component without adding a large amount of weight to a telephoto setup. Two safety stops sit at the rail ends to guard against the lens sliding free if a clamp is only partly open. A steadier lens connection

• For selected Nikon telephotos: The AP-554 fits the Nikon 500mm f/4 AF-S I, II and VR versions, plus the 200-400mm f/4 AF-S VR. It replaces the original lens foot on those specified models.
• Low-profile shape: The foot holds the lens closer to the tripod head than the supplied foot. This lowers the setup’s centre of gravity and reduces flex and vibration when the lens is supported.
• Arca-type rail: Its compatible dovetail profile mounts directly in an Arca-type clamp. That gives you a direct connection between the replacement foot and a matching tripod head.
• Dovetail on both sides: The rail has a dovetail surface above and below the foot, so compatible accessories can be attached to either side. This keeps the lens support and accessory mounting points together.
• Two threaded sockets: A 1/4"-20 and a 3/8"-16 socket provide alternatives for tripod heads without an Arca-type clamp. Choose the thread that matches the head’s mounting connection.
• End safety stops: The included pair of stops helps prevent the foot from sliding out of a clamp that has been opened only partway. They add a useful safeguard when repositioning a supported lens.
• 6061 aluminium: Black anodised aluminium forms the foot’s durable, lightweight body. The finish also gives the replacement component a discreet appearance alongside the lens.
